Human Resources Assistant – Shared Services HR Office

Position Summary:The shared services human resources office provides services to three seminaries -- Church Divinity School of the Pacific (CDSP), Graduate Theological Union (GTU) and the Pacific School of Religion (PSR). The Human Resources Assistant provides administrative support for the day-to-day operations within the shared services office. The Assistant carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee recruitment and hiring, benefit administration, HRIS maintenance, compliance, reporting, employee terminations and record keeping.
Graduate Theological Union:The GTU is the largest and most diverse partnership of seminaries and graduate schools in the United States, pursuing interreligious collaboration in teaching, research, ministry, and service.
The GTU is a graduate school that is a consortium of nine theological seminaries and eight centers and affiliates. We are blessed with one of the finest theological libraries in the world, an uncommonly large faculty of distinguished scholars, and a close collaborative relationship with our neighboring institution, the University of California, Berkeley. The proximity of our member schools, multifaith centers, and interdisciplinary programs creates a dynamic intellectual community that draws scholars from around the world.
Essential Job Functions:- Assists with all phases of employee recruitment including creation of job descriptions, job postings, coordination of applications, logistics of interviews, etc.
- Assists with all phases of benefit administration (medical, dental, vision, life, long term disability and 403(b) retirement plans
- Assists with on-boarding and leaving of staff and faculty
- Administers performance review process
- Assists with employment verifications
- Assists with implementation the various unique policies and programs at each of the seminaries
- Maintains personnel files and archive materials in keeping with established record retention procedures
- Maintains and updates personnel related website pages
- Provides reception functions for the human resources office
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

Prerequisite Skills, Knowledge, Education & Experience - Bachelor’s degree
- Two years of human resources experience or training
- Basic understanding of general human resources principles and practices
- Strong organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines and project management skills
- Efficient, highly productive multi-tasker with excellent attention to detail;
- Self-motivated and flexible with ability to proactively provide solutions to opportunities that present themselves.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with all levels of management, staff, faculty and students
- Ability to work with interruptions and side conversations in a shared office
- Proven customer service skills with the ability to be professional, diplomatic and able to serve a variety of constituents with equity, fairness and tact
- Proficiency with personal computers, preferably PC Windows based environment, and the following applications & tools: 1) Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat, 2) Adaptable and quick to learn new software and technology
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural and diverse environment
- Proven ability to handle confidential material accurately and with sensitivity
- Some working experience of payroll software and HRIS
Desired Skills, Knowledge, Education & Experience:- Prior experience in the non-profit sector
- Working knowledge of Datatel-Colleague and/or ADP payroll/HRIS
- Familiarity with higher education and/or religious environments
- Solid knowledge of local, state and federal laws governing employment
