Fall 2004 Update Ordinations Susan Parsons ’03 to the transitional diaconate on June 5, 2004 in the Diocese of California. Robin James ’03 to the priesthood on May 28, 2004 at St. Mark’s Cathedral, Salt Lake City, in the Diocese of Utah. Kay Sylvester ’03 to the transitional diaconate on June 19, 2004 for the Diocese of Los Angeles. Lucinda Ashby ’04 to the priesthood July, 2004 at Trinity Cathedral, Sacramento, in the Diocese of Northern California. Gary Lobdell ’04 to the transitional diaconate on June 6, 2004 in the Diocese of Olympia.
2000s Gary Lobdell ’04 is the new Assistant Rector at Holy Spirit Church, Missoula, MT. He expects to be ordained to the priesthood in January 2005 at Holy Spirit on behalf of the Diocese of Olympia. Lynn Sanders ’04 has accepted a call to be the Assistant to the Rector at Good Shepherd, Austin, TX. Lynn anticipates being ordained to the priesthood on September 18th, in New York City. Julia Wakelee-Lynch ’03 and ’04 is now serving as the Assistant Rector at St. Luke’s Church, Long Beach, CA. Claire Linzel ’03 has been appointed deacon for St. Alban’s Church in Arlington, TX, in the Diocese of Ft. Worth. Susan Parsons ’03 is the coordinator for a new Christian education program at Holy Innocents’, Corte Madera, CA, after spending a year in post-graduate study at Oxford. Dennis Parker ’03 is serving as interim rector of Church of the Resurrection, Eugene, OR. Kay Sylvester ’03 is serving as a non-stipendiary deacon at Holy Innocent’s Church in San Francisco while working for the Every Voice Network as a developer and trainer for “via media,” a new evangelism tool. Jan Waples ’01 is currently a chaplain at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals, a group of Roman Catholic hospitals in Henderson, NV. She is priest associate at St. Matthew’s Episcopal parish in Las Vegas. After working as Associate Rector at St. Francis, San Francisco, Jan did a CPE residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals, specializing in the emotional and theological issues of cancer patients (having been one herself). Jan also serves as an occasional consultant to a Silicon Valley PR company, and continues to write for various academic journals on the subject of spirituality and contemporary fiction. Together with her co-author, Bill Kupersmith, in June 2005 they will have a chapter appear in a book of essays about and by Susan Howatch entitled Scandalous Truths.
1990s Kevin Kaatz ’98 reports that he’s just received his PhD from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows ’97 has been appointed Episcopal Chaplain of Hendricks Memorial Chapel at Syracuse University. Jennifer also serves as Rector of Grace Church, Syracuse. Debra Low-Skinner ’97 became Rector of Christ Church, Garden City, NY in July 2003. Since then she has been appointed a member of the Diocesan Council for Long Island. In addition, Debra volunteers at the Episcopal Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City. In July Debra and her husband Don Skinner celebrated the birth of their fourth grandchild, Serra Angelina Agnello. N. John Riebe ’95 writes that after nine successful years at St. Mary’s, Elk Grove, CA, he and his family have moved to an exciting new ministry at St. Paul’s Church, Waxahachie, TX, in the Diocese of Dallas. Waxahachie is a booming bedroom community just south of Dallas and is poised for greater evangelism and church growth. Quentin Bellamy ’90 is now serving as the Vicar of the Parish of Prestatyn on the North Wales coast of the UK. He was inducted July 19, 2004
1980s Van Windsor ’88, the Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church and School, Pine Bluff, AR, has been appointed by the bishop of Arkansas to serve as Canon Missioner of Southeast Arkansas. JoAnn Leach ’85 has been named Province VIII coordinator for Higher Education.
1970s John Goddard ’76 writes that he has been the Interim Rector at All Saints, Boise, ID, since November 2002. Vincent Scotto ’74 has been the Rector of Good Shepherd, Punta Gorda, FL, for the past 19 years. He writes that Good Shepherd was “ground zero” for the landfall of Hurricane Charley, with winds in excess of 150 mph. The church and school sustained heavy damage, but the faithful gathered in worship the Sunday following the storm in the Fellowship Hall. Vince, who has headed up two major expansions during his tenure, is looking forward to the restoration work. He is hoping the congregation can be back in the church for Christmas Eve services.
1960s Winston Ching ’68 writes that after serving since 1973, he has retired from his position at the Episcopal Church Center in New York. He presently serves as a caregiver to a friend with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Joan Robb ’63 St. Margaret’s House writes in to “reconnect.” She writes that after 40 years of apostasy, she has just reaffirmed her faith last June at St. Andrew’s Church, Glenmore, PA. Joan is a licensed clinical social worker and practices psychotherapy with low income women who have experienced trauma. She has retired from college teaching.
