Winter 2006 Update Ordinations Lance Beizer ’05 to the priesthood on September 10, 2005 at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, Campbell, CA. He is serving as Assisting Priest at Holy Spirit Church. Melanie Donahoe ’04 to the priesthood on November 12, 2005 at Transfiguration Episcopal Church, San Mateo, CA. James Tramel ’03 to the priesthood on June 18, 2005 at the California State Prison-Solano, Vacaville, CA. John Harris to the priesthood in April 2005 in Gridley, CA. He is currently an online student through the Center for Anglican Learning and Leadership (CALL). Jane Trent Surles to the priesthood on September 20, 2005 in Panama. She prepared for ordination through online courses from CALL. Marilyn Wilder to the priesthood in October 2005 in Spokane, WA. She completed much of her formation work though online classes from CALL.
2000s Erin Christensen ’03/’05 and Howard Giles ’04 recently welcomed a new daughter, Mary Lynne Giles, on July 13, 2005. All are well and happy. Frank Sawyer ’04 is serving as the School Minister at The Parish of St. Matthew in Pacific Palisades, CA. Margaret Watson ’03 has accepted a call as Rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, VA. Jon Anderson ’02 is currently serving as Priest-in-Charge Under Special Circumstances at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Ojai, CA. Mary Gavin ’02 has taken a one-year appointment as Assistant Priest at Christ Church in Edmonton, Alberta. She returns to city life after four years as the Rector of a three-point rural parish in Saskatchewan. Linda Ormiston ’02 is performing lay ministry at St. Thomas’ Church in Sunnyvale, CA. Alison Harrity ’00 is the Associate Rector at Saint David’s Church in Wayne, PA. Aron Kramer ’00 has begun a new ministry at Gethsemane Church in Minneapolis, MN. The Diocese has pledged to invest $500,000 in the church to meet the rapid growth expected in the area in the coming years
1990s M. R. Ritley ’93 recently finished writing her second book, God of Our Mothers, which Morehouse will publish in February 2006. She is serving at Church of the Good Shepherd in Berkeley, CA, in addition to teaching classes and working on her third book. Bob Dietel ’92 is the Vicar of St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church on Camano Island, WA. He is also Priest-in-Charge at St. Martin-St. Francis Episcopal Mission in Rockport and The Church of the Transfiguration in Darrington, WA. Seth Polley ’92 recently moved from Virginia to Tucson, AZ, and is assisting at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. He is also the interim campus minister for the University of Arizona Episcopal Campus Ministry. He and his wife, Lori Keyne, are the proud new parents of Catalina Grace. Dyana Orrin ’91 received her D.Min. from the Vancouver School of Theology in 2004 and is the rector of St. James the Fisherman in Kodiak, AK. John Schaefer ’91 recently joined the staff at the Diocese of Nebraska and is focusing on congregational and clergy renewal.
1980s Armand Kreft ’87 is currently serving as the Priest-in-Charge of Epiphany Parish, Seattle, WA. Brian Kellington ’84 began a new ministry in November 2005 as the Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pekin, IL. Paul Kwong ’82 is the Provincial Secretary General for Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, the Anglican Church in the Province of Hong Kong.
1970s Vincent Scotto ’74 is celebrating his 20th anniversary as Senior Pastor of Good Shepherd Parish and Day School in Punta Gorda, FL.
1960s Richard Toll ’67 is the Coordinator of Friends of Sabeel North America. He recently organized conferences in the United States and Canada supporting Palestinian Christians in the Holy Land. Richard’s third grandchild was born in June 2005. Naim Ateek ’66 is the director of Sabeel North America, which supports Palestinian Christians in the Holy Land. Bob Reynolds ’66 recently retired as Rector from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Walnut Creek, CA. He and his wife Elizabeth have moved to Cincinnati. 1950s Alan Jenks ’59 recently retired from active parish ministry and is enjoying spending time with his wife Denda and his children and grandson.
I n M e m o r i a m Mary Scovil Johnson Mary Scovil Johnson died September 24, 2005. Beloved by many, she was the widow of the Very Rev. Sherman E. Johnson, fourth Dean of CDSP. A member of the last class at St. Margaret’s House (1966), she finished her study at CDSP the following year. A psychotherapist and pastoral counselor with a Master’s degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy, she made a difference in the lives of many children and families with her work in the area of Child Protective Services for Contra Costa County. Dorothy Lee ’96 died August 26, 2005 in Platteville, WI. She was Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Platteville and earned her Ph.D. in Folklore and Ethnomusicology. Her love for her “flock” and her passion for ministry to anyone in need will long be remembered. Three members of Dorothy’s CDSP ‘family’, Diana Peters ’96, Johnson Loud’97, and Margaret Lucie Thomas’95, were present at her interment. Gary H. Mattson ’85 died on August 24, 2005. Richard “Dick” Westcott ’60 died recently. He was living in Trinidad. Oliver Nixon ’56 died August 8, 2005. Paul Focht ’54 died in November 2004. Mary Louise Millard, wife of the Rt. Rev. Richard Millard, died August 15, 2005 at The Sequoias in Portola Valley, CA. Louise met Dick at the Episcopal Club while attending the University of California at Berkeley, and they were married for 66 years.
